Legal Research Associate

Job Overview

Bailjini's Legal Research Associate is the backbone of our legal team's knowledge operations. You will research case law, analyse BNSS and BNS provisions, draft legal opinions, and prepare background research that directly supports our panel advocates in bail hearings and client consultations. This is an excellent role for a law graduate or LLM holder who wants to build deep expertise in criminal law in a fast-paced, real-world environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Research Supreme Court, High Court, and district court judgements on bail, BNSS, BNS, and related criminal law provisions
• Prepare case summaries and legal opinions for the advocate panel on specific matters
• Track and catalogue new BNSS and BNS judgements weekly for the Bailjini News & Judgements section
• Draft legal content for the Bailjini blog, Bare Acts pages, and FAQ sections
• Assist in drafting bail applications, anticipatory bail petitions, and quashing petitions under advocate supervision
• Maintain and update Bailjini's internal case law and legal argument database
• Research procedural rules across Mumbai, Pune, Lucknow, Bengaluru, and Delhi courts for the operations team

What We Are Looking For

• LLB from a recognised university; LLM is an advantage
• Strong understanding of criminal law and procedure — BNSS, BNS, and BSA knowledge is a significant plus
• Excellent legal research skills using Indian Kanoon, SCC Online, Manupatra, or similar platforms
• Strong English writing skills — ability to write in plain language as well as formal legal style
• Meticulous attention to detail and ability to organise large volumes of case material
• Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a fast-moving environment

Nice to Have

• Prior internship at a criminal law firm, high court, or legal aid organisation
• Familiarity with PMLA, POCSO, NDPS, or SC/ST Act provisions
• Experience writing legal content for publications or law review journals
